For aphrodisiac effect and for the diseases caused by rakta (blood) and pitta, the basti prepared with madhu (honey), ghrita (cow’s ghee), paya (cow’s milk) are recommended. For diseases caused by kapha and vāta, the basti prepared with tila taila (sesame oil), mūtra (cow’s urine), aranāla (sour rice gruel), lavaṇa (rock salt) are recommended. In the preparation of enema solution the ingredients like amlaṁ (sour substances), mūtraṁ (cow’s urine), paya (cow’s milk), surā (alcoholic beverages), and kvātha (herbal decoctions), are to be added, particularly hot water should be added as it is not antagonistic to dhātū and is source of rasa dhātū (nutrient fluid).(13-14)
