It moves out the accumulated ''dosha'' and ''mala'', thus helps to maintain patency and proper functions of ''srotas''. It also activates ''dhatvagni''. Although ''haritaki'' is not directly providing nourishment to ''dhatus'' (body tissues), but due to to proper function of ''srotas'', removes obstructions and helps the nutrients to reach to the ''dhatus''. Also by activating ''dhatvagni'', it helps in proper conversion of nutrients into ''dhatus''.
