The articles will be reviewed by editors and reviewers. Comments will be sent to the authors to revise it. After satisfactory revision, the articles will be accepted and published online for open access under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. Guidelines for contribution in online edition of Charak Samhita

Charak Samhita Research, Training and Skill Development Centre has decided to edit and publish Charak Samhita in new, currently applicable and scientific format. The chapters of Charak Samhita are already uploaded in a standard research article format on this website.
Taking this further, we invite original research articles on important concepts and practices of Ayurveda in view of contemporary approach.

Topics

Any important topic of Charak Samhita, which is not published in this edition.

Readership

The articles shall be written as an informative article to new learners of Ayurveda with contemporary updates. The authors can read articles available in the monographs on concepts and practices section of online edition of Charak Samhita.

Publication Process

  • Think to write on any important concepts in Charak Samhita. You can check the list of concepts already published in monographs.
  • If the article on your concept is not published, then you can prepare the article as per guidelines and submit the article as pre-print. If the content is good and original, the pre-print will be reviewed and edited for display on website.
  • Your article will be placed online for one month for open review by readers and experts. The comments will be sent to you for further modifications. After one month, the article will be sent to you for revision. The revised article shall be submitted within two weeks of receiving comments. After receiving your revised article, it will be finally edited before publication in wiki format on the website. DoI will be assigned to the article.
  • You will receive an email regarding final publication of article with link and DoI.
  • If you are interested in online editing , then we may provide you a user account on Charak Samhita website and basic online training of wiki editing.
  • All the content available on the website is published under Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike 4.0 International License (see Charak Samhita:Copyrights for details).

Guidelines for writing an article

1.Collection of references from Ayurveda classics

a. Firstly, you need to collect all references from Charak Samhita. b. Then search the differences of opinions in other classical Ayurveda texts like Sushurta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya, Ashtanga Samgraha, Madhav Nidana, Sharangadhara Samhita, Bhavaprakasha. The differences or additions given by these classics shall only be quoted. c. You may refer other authentic texts and text books to refer in there is any substantial modification or addition. d. Research articles from standard indexed scientific journals can also be referred.

2. Categorization of references as per template

After collecting all references, categorize them according to following sub-sections:

  • Introduction:
  • Etymology and derivation:
  • Synonyms used in Ayurveda Samhita:
  • General applicable information like types, classification, assessment criteria, etc.
  • Importance of concept:
    • In preservation and promotion of health
    • In diagnosis and prognosis
    • In management of diseases
  • Contemporary approach:
    • You may give brief account of contemporary views from available Wikipedia articles or scientific journals with proper references.
  • Current researches:
    • You may give list of research theses done in proper format
    • Summary of research works or articles may also be submitted with proper references.
    • Metanalysis of research works is highly appreciable.
    • Case reports and experience-based evidences can also be added in this.

3. Language

  • Word limit for article is 2000 words. However, it can be increased for important concepts and quality contents.
  • The language of article shall be uniformly US English. While we are writing article in English, use running English language as much as possible. Use English words first and then Sanskrit terms in the bracket. ex. Blood(rakta) is formed in liver (yakrit).
  • If any Sanskrit word is used, then relevant English meaning shall be given in bracket( ).
  • Use square bracket [] for quoting references in superscript or references from classical Ayurveda texts (Samhita)
  • Check your article for language, spelling errors, proper references from the original source before submitting it.

4. References

  • The references of Samhita shall be quoted in square bracket within the text only with abbreviations like [Cha. Sa.[[Sutra Sthana]] 1/40], [Su. Sa. Sutra Sthana 1/13]. The list of abbreviations shall be given at the end of the document.
  • Use square brackets for references in text.
  • References from commentaries, other texts and sources can be quoted as per referencing guidelines.

5. Submission of article

  • The authors can email their article as an attachment email on carakasamhita@gmail.com

Check list for submission

  • A covering letter with statement about the originality of content
  • Article file in MS word format with name(s) of authors, their affiliations, and email of corresponding author
  • References file of original references from Samhita
  • PDF or soft copies of research articles referred in the article
